Scouting Steam
WHAT IS SCOUTING STEAM?
Scouting Steam, a six year old proven program, helps prepare Boy Scouts not only for the Steamboat Classic Race, but helps them to complete their Personal Fitness Merit Badge, which is required for Eagle Scout. Scouting Steam puts participants of similar abilities together with motivated and understanding volunteer coaches. Scouting Steam also works in conjunction with Rising Steam which focuses on youth in the 6th – 12th grade.
WHO IS IN SCOUTING STEAM?
Scouting Steam is designed for beginning and experienced runners and walkers, in Boy Scouts, in 6th-12th grader in preparation for the Steamboat Classic 4 Mile Race.
WHAT WILL WE DO?
n up now, then bring a friend or come a make new ones at the orientation session the week of April 1, 2012 to one of our four Scouting Steam training locations. We will introduce ourselves and the program, and share our plans for the next ten Wednesdays. For the second week, wear supportive running or walking shoes and comfortable clothes. After our brief introduction, we will walk, jog, or run together. Come for the fun, come for the fitness, come for a dare, or come for the challenge; but don't put off what you know you want to do – JOIN US! Let's Build some Steam for the Steamboat Classic on June 16, 2012.
OKAY! WHEN AND WHERE?
Scouting Steam is offered at four convenient locations: Chillicothe, Pekin, Peoria, and Washington. The week of April 1, 2012 we will start with an orientation session at each of the four Building Steam training locations.
Sessions will be held at:
- Chillicothe – Tuesdays at 6 PM, hosted by the Chillicothe Park District at Pearce Community Center
- Pekin – Saturdays at 9 AM, hosted by the Pekin Park District at the Royal Avenue Shelter in Mineral Springs Park
- Peoria – Wednesdays at 6 PM, hosted at the Riverplex
- Washington – Thursdays at 6 PM, hosted by the Washington Park District at Five Points

Entry Fees
$75.00 Individual Youth Registration Fee (Includes Race Entry)
Just think, you get 11 weeks of coaching, a participants-only Scouting Steam T-Shirt, a training log. Your fee also includes your entry into the 2012 Steamboat Classic (with its own original T-Shirt).
